YPSILANTI, Mich. – SIUE wrestling picked up another dual match victory Saturday and continued to show noticeable improvement, according to Head Coach Jeremy Spates.

"We are continuing to progress," said Spates. "I'm excited at where we are going."

The Cougars, 2-5, won their first match of the day over Clarion 19-12. Lock Haven defeated SIUE 24-12. Host Eastern Michigan used his home mat advantage for a 22-18 win. Ohio downed the Cougars 30-9.

Jake Residori, Connor McMahon, Derek Nagel, and Chris Johnson each recorded 3-1 individual records for the day.

Patrick Myers also provided a key 11-0 major decision over Clarion's Matt Liggett. SIUE won six of the 10 matches against Clarion.

SIUE also was within distance of Eastern Michigan but fell behind due to bonus points. Both Eastern Michigan and SIUE won five matches.

"We had some wrestlers with some pretty nice days overall," added Spates.

The next action for SIUE wrestling is the Joe Parisi Open in St. Charles, Mo., next Saturday.
