COLUMBIA, Mo. – Jake Residori improved to 12-6 for the season Friday with three wins at the Missouri Duals.

The Cougars did not fare as well as a team. SIUE lost to South Dakota State 29-9, Kent State 36-6, and Missouri 39-10.

Residori opened the day with a 3-1 win over South Dakota State's David Kocer 3-1. He earned his fourth pin of the season over Kent State's Caleb Marsh. He completed the day with a 12-2 major decision over Missouri's Matt Lemanowicz.

"Jake wrestled well," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. "It was nice for him because he has been close all year. For him to come out and get a 3-0 record to end the semester was nice."

SIU, 3-10 in dual matches, won three matches overall in the South Dakota State dual, including Residori's win. SIUE's Patrick Myers upended Brance Simms 7-1 at 133 pounds. SIUE's Chris Johnson was a 5-3 winner at heavyweight over J.J Everard.

Spates said the Cougars had to deal with some adversity.

"We ended up a little banged up at the end of the day," he said. "Luckily we'll get a little time off her over Christmas to get rested up."

A handful of Cougars will travel to the Midlands Championship in Evanston, Illinois, Dec. 29-30. SIUE rings in the new year Jan. 7 with its first home event of the season against Southern Conference rival Chattanooga at the Vadalabene Center.

"We have wrestled a number of good teams so far," said Spates. "We've been through some tough times so I'm excited to see how we respond to it. If we respond the right way, we'll have a great second semester. If we let it get us down, it will be a struggle."
