WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. - Purdue won four one-point matches Saturday and improved to 5-1 with a 39-0 victory over SIUE at Mackey Arena.
The wrestling Cougars fell to 2-6 overall and will look to rebound next Saturday against Indiana and Manchester in Bloomington, Ind.
"I feel like we fought hard in some matches," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. "We got away from the things we have been working on in practice. We reverted back to our old ways, and that hasn"t been working."
SIUE's Cameron Kelly, Angelo Silvestro, Jake Residori, and Chris Johnson each lost their respective matches by one point against the Boilermakers.
Spates said the Cougars were hoping to close the gap in the upper weights but weren't able to overcome early losses.
"Even though we were behind, we thought we could come back with the upper weights," said Spates.
