CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - SIUE wrestling dropped a pair of matches Saturday, falling to Southern Conference (SoCon) rival The Citadel 34-3 and non-conference host North Carolina 32-15.

"We didn't come out wrestling hard, and we didn't win a couple of close matches against The Citadel," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. "We wrestled a little bit better against North Carolina. We were more aggressive in that match."

SIUE 285-pounder David Devine was the lone double winner. He defeated The Citadel's Joe Bexley 5-2 and then downed UNC's Bob Coe 8-1.

"He has been consistent with us all season long," said Spates. "I feel like he's improved all year. Hopefully, he can continue that the rest of the year."

SIUE's upper weights, minus Devine, each lost their opening matches against The Citadel by three points or less. Jake Residori, Deshoun White, and Josh Wood all won their matches against North Carolina.

The Cougars have two more matches on this road trip, both SoCon events Sunday. SIUE travels to Boone, N.C., to take on Davidson and Appalachian State. The matches are set to start at noon.

"We're excited to get these last matches in and then get back home so we can prepare for the conference tournament," said Spates.

The SoCon Tournament is set for March 8th in Buies Creek, N.C.
