INDIANAPOLIS – SIUE men's soccer completed a perfect preseason with a 2-0 exhibition road win at IUPUI Friday night.
Garet Christianson picked up a goal and an assist, Jabari Danzy got on the score sheet, and Kent Kobernus and Kyle Dal Santo combined to shutout the Jaguars in the victory.
"We had a good performance defensively tonight," SIUE Head Coach David Korn said. "We showed improvement in our play on the ball and ideas in the attack from last week."
Christianson got the Cougars on top early, scoring on a breakaway following a turnover by the IUPUI goalkeeper in the sixth minute. Danzy's goal came shortly after halftime. He scored from 15 yards with the assist from Christianson after a two-on-one break.
Korn added that he felt the Cougars controlled the possession and the number of quality chances during the game.
SIUE returns home to begin the regular season with a 7 p.m. game Fri., Aug. 29, against ACC-member Virginia Tech at Korte Stadium.
"We are pleased with the results this preseason and the team understands we still have a lot of works to do before our game next Friday," Korn said.
Fans are encouraged to pack the stands and help SIUE and Pepsi break two World Records at halftime of Friday's contest.
