Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, In. – SIUE women's tennis dominated Butler in singles play to secure their first win of the spring season.
"It was nice to come away with a win at our first match of the year, especially since it was away," said Head Coach Amanda Pratzel. "It helps lead us into our first home match."
After a slow start in doubles play, four singles wins propelled the Cougars over the Bulldogs. Lexi Aranda won 6-1, 6-0 in the No. 1 spot. Mia Frogner, playing in the No. 2 spot, found a win in three sets. Kali Donner and Sierra Halverson completed the victory for the Cougars, playing at the No. 4 and No. 6 spots, respectively.
"We didn't execute as well as we wanted to in doubles play, but we bounced back and did what we needed to do in singles in order to win the match," said Pratzel.
SIUE returns to Edwardsville for its home opener Jan. 24 at 11 a.m. against Saint Louis.
"I'm looking forward to building off of today and getting even better as we continue," said Pratzel. "After today, we have a lot of confidence leading into the home match against SLU."
