EVANSTON, Ill. - SIUE earned 5.5 points at the 53rd annual Ken Kraft Midlands Championships with three wrestlers earning victories.
John Muldoon, Chris Johnson and Derek Nagel each recorded victories Tuesday, but no SIUE wrestlers advanced to day two of the event.
"Overall it was a disappointing day," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. "We made some technical mistakes that caused us to lose some matches. For the most part we wrestled hard."
The Cougars will now turn their focus toward dual meets in preparation for the Southern Conference Championships in March. Spates said he hopes the Cougars will use this meet to move forward with strength.
"I'm torn on the effort," he said. "This was the end of a stretch of strong competition."
SIUE's next event is Jan. 8 at Gardner-Webb in a SoCon event.
