EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Angelo Silvestro picked up two wins at 141 pounds to highlight SIUE wrestling Sunday at the Vadalabene Center.

Silvestro, a redshirt freshman, won his fifth Southern Conference (SoCon) match of the season with a 10-4 victory over Ryan Hull. Silvestro also defeated Indiana's Sean Brown 9-0.

The Cougars, however, were not as a successful as a team. Gardner-Webb defeated the Cougars 31-13 while Indiana downed SIUE 26-13. SIUE's record fell to 5-17 overall and 2-4 in the SoCon.

"He's performed better as the season has gone on," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates of Silvestro. "At the beginning of the year he was winning and losing one-point matches. Now he's starting to distance himself a bit more from his opponents."

Dakota Leach emerged from redshirt status with a 1-1 record this weekend at 133 pounds. He defeated Indiana's Alonzo Shepherd 4-1 and was a mere takedown away from victory against Gardner-Webb's Tyler Ziegler.

"We pulled Dakota out of redshirt because we had injuries with our seniors John (Petrov) and Patrick (Myers)," said Spates.

Clayton Bass also went 1-1 for the weekend with a SoCon victory over Gardner-Webb's Joseph Evans. It was Bass's first major decision of the season, a 13-0 win.

SIUE's season finale is set for next Sunday as the Cougars take on SoCon rival Chattanooga. The first match is set for 1 p.m.
