EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Jake Residori and Chris Johnson each earned wins Sunday in SIUE wrestling's finale at the Vadalabene Center.

Chattanooga, 13-5 and 7-0 in the Southern Conference, collected a 31-6 victory over SIUE, which dropped to 5-18 overall and 2-5 in the SoCon.

Residori won a 6-4 decision over Chattanooga's Sean Mappes at 174 pounds. Johnson later edged the Mocs' Jared Johnson 4-2 in overtime at heavyweight.

"At the beginning of the year, they were winning some of those close matches and battling for seven minutes," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. "Lately, it seems like they both have been off the game a bit, but tonight they came out and wrestled smart matches."

It was the team-leading 25^th victory of the season for Residori.

"That was a huge win for Residori because he's 6-1 in the SoCon and has a good shot of being a No. 1 seed at the conference tournament," said Spates

Chris Johnson and Jared Johnson went to overtime with Chris Johnson recording a takedown to end the match

"That was a big win for Chris," said Spates.

It also was Senior Day for the Cougars, which said thanks to John Petrov and Patrick Myers.

The Cougars now look forward to the March 7 Arby's SoCon Conference Championship in Asheville, North Carolina. Spates said he'll be helping the team fine tune technique over the next two weeks as well as work on the team's mental game.

"I've said the same thing all year. It's the small, technical things that are hurting us," said Spates.
