Box Score SAN DIEGO – SIUE men's soccer opened a four-game road swing with a scoreless draw in double overtime at San Diego State Friday night at the SDSU Sports Deck.
SIUE is now 2-2-1. San Diego State is 3-0-1.
"The most impressive thing to me is from the first whistle through the very end it was a complete effort," SIUE Head Coach Mario Sanchez said. "We were very disciplined and we created chances to win the game."
The Aztecs edged the Cougars 9-8 in shots. San Diego State did not register a shot on goal. The Cougars managed three shots on frame, but SDSU goalkeeper Adam Allmaras made all three saves.
Jason Hackett paced the Cougars with three shots including one on goal. Paul Scheipeter led the Cougars with two shots on goal.
"We created some pretty good chances," Sanchez said. "In my mind it was the first game we really played from start to finish."
SIUE goalkeeper Kyle Dal Santo did not make a save, but picked up his third shutout of the year and the fourth of his career.
"To get a shutout on the road speaks volumes," Sanchez added. "It was a complete defensive effort from the forwards all the way through the defense."
