Box Score MARTIN, Tenn. – SIUE women's basketball shot a season-low 30.2 percent from the field Saturday and fell to UT Martin 86-50 at the Elam Center.
SIUE's Donshel Beck led all players with 26 points, a career high for the sophomore. She shot 9 of 24 from the field and hit 8 of 12 from the free throw line. Beck added another career high in rebounds with 18, marking her fifth double-double of the season.
"If there was a bright spot in the game, it was Donshel's effort" said SIUE Head Coach Paula Buscher. "She continued to fight throughout the game. We needed more players to step up to that level with her."
CoCo Moore was the only other Cougar scoring in double figures with 10 points as SIUE dropped to 15-12 overall and 10-4 in the Ohio Valley Conference. SIUE shot 19 of 63 from the field for the game.
UT Martin, 19-8 and 12-2 in the OVC, used four players scoring in double figures to push past the Cougars.
Myah Taylor and Shy Copney led the Skyhawks off the bench with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Starters Haley Howard and Chelsea Roberts joined them in double figures with 17 and 10.
"It was a frustrating night because we rushed so much stuff offensively and never got into a flow," said Buscher. "It was a struggle on both sides of the ball – offensively and defensively."
UT Martin shot 51.5 percent from the field (34-66) and hit six three-pointers.
SIUE now gets set for the final week of the regular season. The Cougars have two games set beginning with a 6:30 p.m. contest Wednesday at Southeast Missouri. The season finale is Saturday at Eastern Illinois with a 1 p.m. tip-off time.
