Box Score MARTIN, Tenn. – SIUE remained undefeated for the season after a 4-3 victory at UT Martin. This brings the SIUE women's tennis team to 18-0 overall and 8-0 in Ohio Valley Conference play.
The win clinched the No. 1 seed for the Cougars at next week's OVC Tournament in Nashville, Tennessee.
UT Martin began the match by claiming the doubles point, with the Cougars only earning a win at the No. 2 spot from partners Lexi Aranda and Morgan Steffes. They won their doubles match 6-2 against UT Martin's Hitomi Naito and As Jumamukhambetova.
However this didn't faze the Cougars, and they were quick to fight back with four solid singles wins. Aranda extended her overall singles record to 14-2 with a 2-6, 6-1, 6-4 win over Sarah Candeloro. Fellow senior Mia Frogner defeated Hitomi Naito at the No. 2 spot 6-2, 6-2 to extend her record to 13-4.
No. 4 Steffes also earned a victory over UT Martin's Burcu Tari 6-1, 6-4 and No. 6 Lara Tupper battled it out against Elina Geut in a three-setter to clinch the match and earn the overall win for SIUE. Tupper lost the first set 4-6 but bounced back swiftly with a 6-3, 6-1 win in the next two sets.
SIUE closes out the regular season Saturday with a 10 a.m. match at Southeast Missouri.
