Box Score EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Raillane Kamdem was a double winner for the SIUE women's tennis team Friday as the Cougars dropped a 5-2 decision to Western Illinois at the SIUE Tennis Courts.
SIUE was in celebration mode before the match, honoring players with their rings for advancing to the NCAA Tournament last season. Lexi Aranda, Callaghan Adams, Ann-Christine Link and Lara Tupper were honored.
Kamdem was SIUE's lone winner at singles 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 over Laura Ballasteros at No. 3 singles. Kamdem joined Katherine Lahue earlier in the event for a 7-5 doubles victory, which clinched the first point of the match.
"I'm very proud of our effort today," said SIUE Head Coach Nick Mueller. "From top to bottom, we fought extremely hard. This was our first outdoor match, and played pretty good. Raillane and Katie did great clinching the doubles point for us, and we battled through some close singles matches."
Tupper and Link won their doubles match over Natalie Bravo and Courtney Lubbers 6-2 to help set up the double point.
Both Tupper and Link were in tight singles matches. Tupper dropped a 6-4, 6-4 match at No. 1 singles to Bravo. Link went three sets with Courtney Lubbers before falling 4-6, 6-3, 6-4.
"We look forward to hosting Drake tomorrow," added Mueller.
Match time against Drake Saturday is 12 p.m.
