Box Score EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The SIUE women's tennis team kept things close against Tennessee State, but eventually fell 4-3 to the Tigers Friday at the Edwardsville YMCA.
In doubles play, the Cougars (0-15, 0-4 Ohio Valley Conference) No. 1 duo Raillane Kamdem and Ann-Christine Link were up 4-1 against the Tigers (12-5, 1-3 OVC) Morgan Cage and Ashia Jones before play was cut short due to SIUE falling in the other doubles matches.
The Cougars top singles had a successful day. In No. 1 singles, SIUE's Lara Tupper defeated Ani Popiashvili (TSU) 6-0, 6-2. The No. 2 singles match went the distance, with Kamdem defeating Aarushi Kakkar (TSU) 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. Kamdem has won two of her last three singles matches. In No. 3 singles play, Link defeated Cage 6-1, 6-1.
SIUE will have a quick turnaround, facing Belmont Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Edwardsville YMCA.
