EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE women's tennis dropped its Ohio Valley Conference dual Tuesday 4-3 to Eastern Illinois.

"It was a heartbreaker today," said SIUE Head Coach Adam Albertsen. "That doubles point came down to a tiebreak."

SIUE fell to 5-9 overall and 0-2 in the OVC while Eastern Illinois improved to 9-6 overall and 1-1 in the OVC.

EIU's Abby Carpenter and Karla Contreras nipped SIUE's Alina Munteau and Raillane Kamden 7-6 (13-11) at No. 3 doubles to earn the early double point.

"Our doubles play was a lot better today vs. last week against Jacksonville State," said Albertsen. "I'm happy about that. That's something we can build off."

Maria Thibault and Callaghan Adams, who paired for a No. 2 doubles victory, also were singles winner for the Cougars.

Thibault defeated Shelby Anderson 6-3, 6-0 at No. 6 singles. Adams knocked off Carpenter 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3 singles.

Ann-Christine Link provided SIUE's third point of the day in singles, a 7-6 (7-4), 6-1 triumph over Contreras.

"I'm happy with our effort. I'm happy with how we played. It's something we'll grow from. We'll take this match and get ready for Tennessee State and Belmont next," added Albertsen.
