BRENTWOOD, Tenn. – SIUE junior forward Sidney Wilson has been named the Ohio Valley Conference's Newcomer of the Week, after leading the Cougars to an OVC season-opening win at Morehead State.
The transfer from UConn scored a game-high 18 points while adding career highs in rebounds (nine) and assists (five). Wilson also received votes as the Player of the Week in the league.
"Sidney had a very good week of workouts leading up to our game at Morehead State," SIUE Head Coach Brian Barone said. "His experience and all-around game really helped us start off OVC play with a big road win."
With the game tied at 47 with 13:19 left, Wilson proceeded to score nine of SIUE's next 15 points to push the Cougars' lead to 62-52.
Wilson leads the Cougars in scoring at 13.3 point per game, which is 10th best in the OVC.
