EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - SIUE wrestling kicked off the season Sunday with an intrasquad meet as the Red team won the event 22-13.
"We're just happy to come out of this healthy," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates.
The event featured nine matches, and Spates said his aim was have the wrestlers get back to normal, weigh in for the event and compete at First Community Arena. After all, it may be the longest wait between competitive matches for the wrestlers.
"That was a big reason we did it live on YouTube," said Spates. "And we did it for the fans who couldn't be here to watch Cougar wrestling."
The Red team won the first four matches and edged the Black team in wins 5-4.
"It was nice to see some kids getting bonus points because that is something we talk about before matches," said Spates.
