Box Score BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - SIUE tennis fell for the first time in the 2021 season on Wednesday, as the Cougars dropped a 4-1 decision on the road at Illinois State.
The match started with the Cougars dropping two of three doubles matches. The No. 1 doubles match, which featured Jordan Schifano and reigning Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week Jill Lambrechts, was not completed.
"Give a lot of credit to Illinois State," said Head Coach Adam Albertsen. "They are a veteran team that played really well from start to finish."
Schifano earned the lone point of the match for SIUE, winning 6-0, 6-3 in the No. 2 position to remain unbeaten in collegiate singles play. Lambrechts dropped her first singles match of the season, falling 6-1, 6-4 to Illinois State's Tijana Zlatanovic. Fabiola Perez and Callaghan Adams both dropped their matches as well, while Melissa Vizcardo and Nicole Gomez's singles matches both went unfinished.
"We will learn from this and get better in both singles and doubles," said Albertsen.
The Cougars will return to action on Sunday for a road contest in Valparaiso, Indiana, against the host Crusaders.
