Box Score VALPARAISO, Ind. - SIUE tennis emerged victorious on Sunday with a 7-0 sweep at Valparaiso.
"Really proud of how our team bounced back this week after a tough loss," said Head Coach Adam Albertsen. "Our focus and energy was incredible and we really played smart tennis. The great team win is really credited to how this team works on and off the courts. I love the growth we are seeing."
The Cougars dropped just one set in all matches played, highlighted by straight set victories in all three doubles sets and No. 1 through No. 5 singles play. Jill Lambrechts once again proved why she was voted last week's OVC Women's Tennis Player of the Week when we won her No. 1 singles match, 6-4, 6-0. Jordan Schifano went down to the wire in her No. 2 singles match, winning 7-5, 7-5. SIUE's Vanessa Reinicke, Fabiola Perez, Melissa Vizcardo, and Callaghan Adams all followed suit in their singles matches to secure the Cougar victory.
"We started off with high energy, which led us to winning the doubles point," said Caitlyn Sporing following her No. 3 doubles win. "Cal (Callaghan Adams) and I were happy to see what we've been working on in practice be executed in matches. It was really fun to see everyone back out on the court competing, and we're looking to keep that momentum going into Butler."
The Cougars will continue their four-match road swing next Saturday in Indianapolis, Indiana, with a match at Butler.
