Box Score INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Freshman Jordan Schifano remains unbeaten in singles play to continue her stellar debut season, but SIUE tennis dropped a 4-2 decision at Butler on Saturday afternoon.
"We really struggled with the big points today," said Head Coach Adam Albertsen. "Give Butler credit, they played smart and came away with a high percentage of deuce points."
The Cougars were led in the match by Schifano and fellow freshman Fabiola Perez, who each won their respective singles matches against their Big East Conference opponents. Schifano, the reigning Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week, won her No. 2 singles match over Butler graduate senior Lauryn Padgett, 6-3, 5-7, 6-1. Shortly after, Perez earned a victory in No. 4 singles, 2-6, 6-4, 7-5. SIUE's Callaghan Adams and Vanessa Reinicke scored the Cougars' lone set win in doubles play, claiming a 6-4 decision in No. 2 doubles. Jill Lambrechts, Vanessa Reinicke, and Melissa Vizcardo each dropped their respective singles matches.
SIUE, which now sits at 4-2 on the season, will conclude their four-match road trip on February 26 when the Cougars make the short trip north to Peoria, Illinois, for a Friday afternoon fixture at Bradley.
