Box Score RICHMOND, Ky. – Zoe Schafer picked up both SIUE RBIs Sunday, including her team-leading third home run of the season, but the Cougars dropped the final game of a three-game series at Eastern Kentucky 4-2.
"Zoe continues to be a leader and a threat," said SIUE Head Coach Jessica Jones. "I'm proud of her consistency at the plate with both her approach and adjustments."
Schafer picked up the first RBI in inning one on a sacrifice fly that brought home Alana Cobb-Adams. Schafer added her home run, a blast to the gap in left center field, during the top of the seventh.
Eastern Kentucky, now 10-3 overall and 3-0 in the Ohio Valley Conference, outhit the Cougars 8-6. Solo home runs by Sammi Miller and Ariyana Miranda helped highlight a three-run fourth inning for the Colonels.
SIUE, 0-8 overall and 0-3 in the OVC, next travels to Tennessee State for a three-game series with the Tigers. The series begins with a 1 p.m. doubleheader Friday and a 1 p.m. single game Saturday in Nashville, Tennessee.
"We made progress in some areas and need continual adjustments in other areas moving forward," said Jones.
