Ervin, Ruffin Listed as National Qualifiers

Complete List of 2021 NCAA Qualifiers

EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE's Justin Ruffin joined Saul Ervin as a national qualifier for the 2021 NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships. The complete list of qualifiers and at-large picks were announced Tuesday.

This is the seventh consecutive season that SIUE has earned two qualifiers for the national championships.

Ervin, a 141-pounder, was a 2021 automatic NCAA qualifier based on his fourth-place finish at the 2021 Mid-American Conference Championships.

Ruffin, a 157-pounder, qualified for the third straight year. SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates announced that Ruffin, who was an at-large selection, likely will not compete when the Championships get underway March 18-20 in St. Louis due to injuries that occurred during the MAC Championships Feb. 26.

"That's pretty neat to be in college for three seasons and be able to say you are a national qualifier for three years in a row," said Spates.

Ruffin recorded a 9-4 record with his last two losses coming due to injury. Ervin leads this year's team with a 10-5 record.

The seeding and the brackets for the Championships will be announced Wednesday.
