MUSCLE SHOALS, Ala. – SIUE golf tied its best finish at the Ohio Valley Conference Championship claiming third at the completion of the tournament Tuesday at the Fighting Joe Course at The Shoals. The Cougars also finished third at the 2017 Championship.
SIUE finished at 869 (+5) to finish behind team champion UT Martin (861) and second-place finisher Belmont (863). Tenness Tech finished fourth at 871. Defending champion Jacksonville State (873) finished fifth.
The Cougars' 54-hole total of 869 is the second lowest for SIUE at the OVC Championship, just a stroke behind 2019's total.
"I am very proud of our team and how they battled all week," SIUE Head Coach Derrick Brown said. "This team grew so much this spring and got better with each tournament."
Zak Butt earned All-Tournament honors with a third-place finish. His 54-hole total of 209 (-7) is the lowest by a Cougar at the OVC Championship. His third-place finish also is the best.
Brooks Jungbluth tied for sixth at even-par 216. His total is tied for third-best at the Championship for an SIUE golfer.
"Zak and Brooks finishing in the top six took some really good play," Brown added.
TJ Baker earned his third top-20 finish of the season. He tied for 17th at 221. Anthony Ruthey finished at 227 to tie for 32nd place. Parker McEachern tied for 36th at 229.
"We had a great team effort this week and I am proud of all of them," Brown said.
