BUFFALO, N.Y. - SIUE wrestling dropped a pair of close Mid-American Conference matches Sunday. Cleveland State topped the Cougars 24-15, and Buffalo defeated SIUE 24-12.

"The guys wrestled hard overall," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. "It wasn't the easiest day, but I felt like we competed hard."

SIUE's Saul Ervin and Colton McKiernan were double winners for the Cougars.

Ervin bested Cleveland State's Hunter Olson in the most lopsided victory for the Cougars, winning by technical fall 18-2. He then edged Buffalo's Ben Freeman 2-1.

McKiernan was ultra stingy on defense in not allowing a point all day. He defeated Cleveland State's Daniel Bucknavich 6-0 and Buffalo's Toby Cahill 1-0.

"They both were solid today," added Spates.

SIUE, 0-8 overall and 0-2 in the MAC, also picked up wins during the tri-dual from Austin Macias, Max Kristoff, Kevin Gschwendtner and Sergio Villalobos.

The next scheduled match for the Cougars is Missouri next Sunday in a 1 p.m. contest at First Community Arena.
