LAST GAME: Madison Webb recorded her first collegiate double-double and Sofie Lowis added a season-best 20 points as the Cougars fell 83-77 to Western Illinois on Sunday afternoon at Western Hall. SIUE shot a season-best 46 percent (30-65) as a team, but The Fighting Leathernecks scored 27 points from the free throw line and had five players in double figures.
ROAD RUNNERS: The Cougars will play as the visitors in eight of their 11 nonconference games to start the season, including the next three. SIUE is currently amid its longest road swing of the season, playing six consecutive games away from Edwardsville.
BOARDS AND SCORES: Sophomore guard Sofie Lowis recorded a career-high seven rebounds while adding a season-best 20 points at Western Illinois on Sunday. Her 20-point outing was the second of her career. Lowis has also scored in double-figures in four of her last five games.
WEBB FLIPPED A SWITCH: Junior forward Madison Webb collected a career-high 18 points while adding 10 rebounds at Western Illinois on Sunday. Her double-double was the first of her career and second for the Cougars this season. It was also Webb's second 10+ rebounding effort.
SHOOT YOUR SHOT: Sophomore guard Molly Sheehan is tied for eighth in the OVC connecting on 1.5 three-pointers per contest. She leads the Cougars with 12 from deep.
DISH EM: Senior guard KK Rodriguez ranks ninth in the OVC averaging 2.7 assists per game. The 5-6 transfer from Tulsa leads SIUE with 16 this season.
GAME OF TWO HALVES: The Cougars have scored 245 of their 413 total points (60 percent) through eight games in the second half. SIUE has been outscored 383-179 in the first half this season.
READY TO COMPETE IN MARCH: In its nonconference schedule, SIUE plays four games against power-five conference schools (Purdue, Iowa State, Louisville, and Washington).
AT THE HELM: Samantha Quigley Smith is in her second season in charge of SIUE She owns a 13-26 record with the Cougars and a combined collegiate record of 163-66 as head coach.
