Kevin Gschwendtner completed his final home match with a victory Friday, but SIUE wrestling dropped a 29-12 dual meet to visiting Kent State on Senior Day.
"We had a lot of close ones, but they continue to go the other way instead of our way," said SIUE Associate Head Coach
Daryl Thomas. "We have to get that part figured out, and guys have to get over the hump and find a little bit of fire."
Matt Malavsky, also a senior, accepted a forfeit at 133 pounds. Gschwendtner defeated Kent State's Michael Ferre 11-9 at 174 pounds. Colton McKiernen added a 3-0 decision over Kent State's Jacob Cover.
"It was nice to see Kevin get a win on Senior night, and Colton is improving," added Thomas.
SIUE also announced a schedule change for Sunday. The Cougars will wrestle Northern Illinois in a 4 p.m. single match. Cal Baptist dropped out of the double dual.
