EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - SIUE opened the 2022 Ohio Valley Conference softball season with a pair of losses at Cougar Field, falling to visiting Murray State.
The Racers improved to 18-8 overall while SIUE dropped to 8-15. Murray State won game one 9-0 in five innings and followed that up with an 8-0 win in five innings.
"We certainly looked nervous and anxious for our first conference game," said SIUE Interim Head Coach
P.J. Finigan. "They are a good team that took it to us, and hopefully we'll bounce back tomorrow."
The third game of the season is set for Sunday at noon.
Murray State's Logan Braundmeier and Chloe Jacque started the doubleheader with back-to-back hits. The Racers would not look back after the duo scored on a single by Gracie Osbron.
With 11 hits in game one and 10 more in game two, the Racers kept the pressure on offensively while stopping the Cougars defensively.
SIUE had three hits in the opener and five more in the nightcap.
Lexi King, who took the loss in game two, had a hit in both games as did
Jenna Herron.
