LAST TIME OUT
SIUE tennis capped off an outstanding non-conference slate with a convincing 5-2 victory over the Milwaukee Panthers last Sunday in Edwardsville. The Cougars closed out the non-conference portion of the 2022 season at 12-1, marking the most non-conference victories in the program's Division I era. The Red & White also remain undefeated at home, sitting at 5-0 in Edwardsville entering Friday's contest against UT Martin. SIUE's non-conference winning percentage of .923 sits as the second-best mark in the program's D-I era. Jordan Schifano, Jill Lambrechts, Vanessa Reinicke, Fabiola Perez, and Amber Hochstatter all secured singles victories in the fixture.

CHANGE OF SCENERY
The match against UT Martin was originally scheduled to be played on-campus at the SIUE Tennis Courts; however, due to expected weather conditions, the match will now be played at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center. The match start time has also been moved back to 1:30 p.m.

TRIPLE DOUBLES
SIUE's potent doubles play was recognized as the best in the Ohio Valley Conference for two consecutive weeks to start the season, as Caitlyn Sporing and Melissa Vizcardo's impressive efforts garnered the duo's first OVC Doubles Team of the Week honors for the week of February 21. This award followed the announcement, which saw Vanessa Reinicke and Jordan Schifano earn Doubles Team of the Week the week prior. And two weeks ago, the team of Jill Lambrechts and Maria Thibault became the third-different SIUE doubles team to claim OVC Doubles Team of the Week honors. The Cougars won three of the first four Doubles Team of the Week honors awarded by the OVC this season, becoming the first program in league history to accomplish the feat.

CONFERENCE CALL
The OVC will begin its 45th season of women's tennis this weekend, as SIUE will welcome the UT Martin Skyhawks on Friday afternoon before the Cougars head to Cape Girardeau, Missouri, for a Sunday afternoon contest at OVC preseason favorite Southeast Missouri.

CONSISTENT IMPROVEMENT
Since assuming the helm of the SIUE tennis program, Head Coach Adam Albertsen has seen the Cougars improve at a pace matched by few other programs in Division I tennis.

Albertsen oversaw a six-win increase during his first season, followed by a three-win improvement in the COVID-19-shortened 2020 campaign. In the 2021 spring season, the Cougars reached double-digit wins for the first time since 2016. And now in his fourth season in Edwardsville, the program has nearly doubled its win total from his first season, reaching 11 wins with eight matches remaining on the Cougars' schedule.

HISTORY MADE
The Cougars put together their best start in six seasons and their second-best start in the program's Division I era with nine consecutive wins to begin the 2022 season.
    2011-12 (3-0)
SCOUTING THE SKYHAWKS
UT Martin enters Friday's match with a 1-11 record, with the Skyhawks' lone win coming in a 4-0 rout of Missouri State. Common opponents between SIUE and UTM include Chicago State (SIUE won 5-1; UTM lost 4-2) and Western Kentucky (SIUE lost 4-1; UTM lost 4-0). Last season, the Red & White earned a 6-1 home win over UTM on the final day of the regular season; however, history has been more kind to the Skyhawks, as UTM holds an 11-5 advantage in the all-time series which dates back to April 3, 1992.

SCOUTING THE REDHAWKS
Southeast Missouri sits at 8-4 overall, as the league's preseason favorites have continued the run of form that saw them run the table in OVC play last spring en route to the program's first-ever conference regular season championship. Common opponents between SIUE and SEMO include Bradley (SIUE won 4-2; SEMO won 6-1) and William Woods (SIUE won 7-0; SEMO won 5-2, 7-0).

Following eight consecutive SIUE wins to begin the Cougars' stay in NCAA Division I, the Redhawks bounced back to steal the past three matches between the two storied programs. The Cougars and Redhawks last met in Edwardsville on April 16, 2021, when SEMO came away with a 5-2 victory.
