Yarnell Places Fourth at MAC Championships
ATHENS, Ohio - Ryan Yarnell (Imperial, Mo.) was SIUE wrestling's top finisher Saturday at the 2022 MAC Championships at the Ohio University Convocation Center.

Yarnell placed fourth at 197 pounds. After dropping a sudden victory match on day one of the Championships, Yarnell battled back for three wins. He lost to Aaron Bolo, of Central Michigan, in the match for third place.

"Ryan did a good job," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. "He was fighting in all of the matches. He got back to hand fighting and his offense so that helped him win some matches."

Seven SIUE wrestlers were among the top eight in their respective weight classes. The top Cougars were Austin Macias (125/8th), Aaron Schulist (133/6th), Saul Ervin (141/6th), Caleb Tyus (149/8th), Sergio Villalobos (184/8th) and Colton McKiernan (285/5th).

"The guys fought hard," noted Spates. "I know the guys are disappointed. We have all of the placewinners coming back so hopefully we'll continue to get better."

SIUE will wait for next week's announcement for the field in the NCAA Division I Championships as wild cards spots to the field may be available.
