SAINT CHARLES, Ill. – The SIUE wrestling team progressed throughout the meet, wrapping the Lindenwood Open on Saturday. The event included wrestlers from 37 schools.
"It was a tough tournament," Head Coach Jeremy Spates said. "There was great competition, being able to go against of the bigger programs."
The Cougars had four athletes place in the Gold Open division. Marcel Lopez earned third in the Gold-133, Danny Martinez took third in the Gold-141, and Deron Pullium placed third in Gold-184.
In the Black Open Division, Dom Lopez finished second in the Black-174B and Bryson Buhk grabbed second in the Black-285A.
"We came out a bit sluggish at the beginning of the day," added Spates. "We weren't performing at our best and took some losses that we felt like we could've won. We progressed as the day went along, with guys wrestling better.
SIUE returns to action after the holiday break with the Cougar Classic on Saturday, Dec. 2.
"It's nice that we have this week off to heal up some bumps and bruises," said Spates. "We have some time to get back to the drawing board to prepare for a tough Cougar Clash in a few weeks."
