LAST TIME OUT: KK Rodriguez gave SIUE a one-point lead with seven seconds remaining on a three-pointer, but Dayton found a go-ahead basket three seconds later following a timeout to down the Cougars, 75-74 on Monday night at UD Arena. SIUE concluded the game shooting 43 percent (25-58) overall, 9-20 from deep, and 15-19 from the free throw line. Dayton wrapped the contest 38 percent (29-75) from the floor while going 15-21 from the stripe. The Flyers controlled the glass, outrebounding the Cougars 51-34 and 25-9 offensively, scoring 26 on second chance opportunities. Rodriguez led the Cougars with 33 points, tying a career best mark. Olivia Clayton scored a career-high 11 points.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK: Rodriguez was named the Ohio Valley Conference Player of the Week on Nov. 21 after leading the league in scoring with 48 points. She opened the week with 31 points, four rebounds, and four assists at Illinois State. She shot 12-23 from the field, including a career-high seven three-pointers, tied for second in program history. She closed her week with 17 points at Eastern Michigan, her fourth consecutive game in double-figures, and dished four assists. She shot 7-17 overall and 3-6 from beyond the arc to capture the Cougars' first weekly award of the 2023-24 season.
50TH SEASON OF WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The 2023-24 season marks the 50th season of women's basketball at SIUE. The Cougars own an all-time record of 685-642 since the program began in 1974.
SHOOTERS SHOOT: SIUE ranks second in the OVC averaging 8.2 three-pointers made per game. Rodriguez (15, t-2nd), Macy Silvey (11, t-6th), and Sofie Lowis (9, t-11th) rank in the top 15 of the league in three's made. The Cougars also rank second in scoring offense at 74.5 points per game.
SHARING IS CARING: The Cougars rank third in the OVC averaging 15.0 assists per contest. Rodriguez's 23 assists rank third in the league.
NOT IN OUR HOUSE: SIUE's 3.5 blocks per game lead the league. Halle Smith leads the Cougars and the conference with 10, good for 40th in the country.
ATTACK THE GLASS: The Cougars' 36.5 rebounds per game stack up third in the OVC. Rodriguez's 32 lead the squad and are tied for sixth in the OVC. Silvey has collected 27 board, tied for 10th in the league.
DO IT FOR FREE: SIUE leads the league in free throw percentage and ranks 31st in the country at 78.1 percent (82-105). Rodriguez ranks fourth in the league with at 80.0 percent from the charity stripe. Stoller ranks fifth at 79.2.
READY TO COMPETE IN MARCH: In its nonconference schedule, SIUE will play four games against opponents who finished the 2022-23 season in RPI top 100 (Oklahoma State, Illinois State, Middle Tennessee, and Michigan).
