EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - SIUE freshman Danny Martinez placed second at the Cougar Clash and posted the top finish for the Cougars Saturday at First Community Arena.

Martinez worked his way to the finals with victories over Northern Illinois' Danny Curran and Army's Rich Treanor. Martinez dropped the final 6-2 to Missouri's Josh Edmond.

"Danny did a good job," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. "He has wrestled with a lot of poise that you don't always see from a true freshman."

Other top finishers for the Cougars included Davian Guanajuato (4th/125), Marcel Lopez (6th/133), Eric Almarinez (8th/141), Caleb Tyus (4th/149), Justin Ruffin (8th/165), Dominic Lopez (7th/174), Deron Pulliam (7th/184), Rya Yarnell (5th/197) and Nick Nosler (7th/197).

The Cougars are now idle until Dec. 17 when they welcome California Baptist and Kent State for a triangular at First Community Arena.

"We have to find that offense and then we have to finish and make sure we are putting up points on the board," said Spates.
