NASHVILLE, Tenn. – SIUE women's tennis won its second straight Ohio Valley Conference matchup Sunday, besting Tennessee State 7-0 at the Currey Tennis Center Complex.
"It's great to go on the road and pick up an OVC win against a much-improved Tennessee State team," said SIUE Head Coach Adam Albertsen.
SIUE, 12-3 and 2-0 in took the doubles point early with wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Amelia Gorman and Margaux Guibal Britt defeated Jovana Nikoloc and Franka Sindicic 6-3 while Caitlyn Sporing and Jaiden McKee downed Daniela Koleva and Aroa Castillo 6-1.
"Getting the doubles point continues to be a focus for us, but our singles play has been impressive not dropping a set," said Albertsen.
Jill Lambrechts easily won her No. 1 singles match over Warona Mdlulwa 6-1, 6-1. All SIUE players won in straight sets with victories by Guibal Britt at No. 2 singles, Jordan Schifano at No. 3 singles, Gorman at No. 4 singles, McKee at No. 5 singles and Sporing at No. 6 singles.
"We look to keep building and get better each match," said Albertsen. "Next weekend is another great opportunity as we host the reigning OVC champions in Southeast Missouri. They are a strong, well-coached team, and we look forward to the test."
