HILTON HEAD, S.C. - Building momentum from the doubles point, SIUE women's tennis pushed past South Carolina State 5-2 Wednesday at Hilton Head High School.
"That was a great win today that was highlighted by strong doubles play on all three courts," said SIUE Head Coach
Adam Albertsen. "South Carolina State played extremely aggressive, and we responded with smart sound play."
Jaiden McKee and
Caitlyn Sporing started SIUE's doubles victories with a 6-2 win over Rachida Berjane and Malannia Vashkevich.
Jill Lambrechts and
Jordan Schifano clinched the doubles point at No. 1 doubles with a 6-4 triumph over Hind Semlali and Soyfa Vitaliyena Chursina.
"Playing a team that is coming off a MEAC championship with tons of talent was a great match for us to continue our growing," said Albertsen.
Schifano and
Margaux Guibal Britt scored the first two singles points at No. 3 and  No. 2 singles, respectively. Schifano nearly blanked Toedora Vujicic 6-0, 6-1. Guibal Britt bested Berjane 6-3, 6-4.
The Cougars closed out the victory when
Jill Lambrechts won her No. 1 singles match over Vitaliyena Chursina 7-6, 6-4.
Jaiden McKee added a win at No. 5 singles 6-7, 7-6, 10-8 over Nalanda Teixeira Da Silva.
"It was another day of battles on each court, and we were able to come away with the win," said Albertsen. :Our comfort outdoors took another step forward and we look forward to another massive test tomorrow in Charleston."
SIUE closes out the trip Thursday at the College of Charleston.
