EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - Mizzou scored seven runs in the first inning Tuesday as the Tigers upended SIUE softball 8-1 at Mizzou Softball Stadium.
Missouri improved to 30-20 while SIUE dropped to 20-24. It was the final nonconference game of the season for the Cougars. SIUE faces Morehead State this weekend on the road and Lindenwood at home May 6-7 to close out the regular season.
Sydney Baalman pitched 5 1/3 innings of relief for the Cougars and handled the Tigers. She allowed just one run on six hits.
"After we got over our first inning jitters," said SIUE Head Coach
Ben Sorden, "we played right with them."
SIUE scored its lone run in the third inning off Missouri's Cierra Harrison. The Cougars'
Hayley Palm recorded an RBI on a single to right field that scored
Lexi King.
"I'm glad to see Hayley get a timely hit," said Sorden.
SIUE finished with six hits overall, including two from
Sherri Mason. King, Palm,
Emma Neuman and
Piper Montgomery also had hits for the Cougars.
The Cougars' defense has continued to shine and now has gone 37 straight innings without an error.
"We continue to play a clean defense," said Sorden.
