OXFORD, Ala. - SIUE pitcher
Sydney Baalman threw the the Cougars' 15th no-hitter of the NCAA Division I era Wednesday with an 8-0 victory over Morehead State at the Ohio Valley Conference Championships.
Baalman, a second team All-OVC selection, recorded her 14th victory of the season in the five-inning win. She struck out seven, walked two, and completed the game with 75 pitches..
The victory allows SIUE into a six-team, double-elimination bracket as it also eliminates Morehead State from the tournament. The Cougars next face fourth-seeded UT Martin in a game scheduled for 5:30 p.m. at Choccolocco Park.
The Cougars provided plenty of offense for Baalman beginning with the first inning.
Lexi King, a first team All-OVC selection, drew a walk, stole second and scored on a single by
Grace Lueke.
SIUE, now 27-24 overall,  got a big day from Lueke as she added a two-run single in the four-run second inning and an RBI single in the three-run fourth inning.
Hayley Palm provided the eventual game-winning hit, a two-run single in the fourth that plated
Emma Neuman and pinch runner
Jenna Herron.
This is the 39th no-hitter in the history of Cougar softball. It also was the first no-hitter in the OVC Tournament since Jacksonville State's Tiffany Harbin did it in 2011.
