EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – SIUE Director of Athletics Andrew Gavin has announced the addition of Dan McIver to the Athletics staff as Deputy Director of Athletics.
McIver brings 27 years of Division I experience to the Cougars, most recently serving as the Deputy Athletics Director at Northern Kentucky.
"I am honored and excited to join the SIUE team," McIver said. "It is one that is comprised of student-athletes, coaches and staff that are passionate about the university and athletics department. I want to thank Director of Athletics Andrew Gavin for the opportunity to be part of his leadership team. His passion for development of student-athletes, coaches and staff is energizing. I am looking forward to supporting his vision for the program."
While with the Norse, McIver oversaw the marketing and ticket operations, Norse Sports Properties, sports medicine and sports performance. McIver served as the Chair of the Horizon League Competition Cabinet and served as the department's representative to several University committees.
McIver also managed all financial operations with the department including budget development and management.
Under McIver, ticket sales revenue for the Norse increased 150 percent from 2015 to 2020. The total ticket revenue during the 2019-2020 season was the second highest total in the Horizon League.
"I am thrilled to be welcoming Dan to our department as Deputy AD," Gavin said. "His leadership abilities, demonstrated success, and broad experience as a Division I senior administrator will be an asset to our coaches, staff, student-athletes, and University as we move into an exciting new era. We're excited to have Dan joining our Cougar team."
Prior to his time at Northern Kentucky, McIver spent 18 years at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay first as an Assistant Athletic Director before becoming Senior Associate Athletic Director. He also served as the Department's Interim Athletic Director for four months in 2013.
At Green Bay, McIver developed the annual budget for the athletics department and monitored revenues and expenditures to ensure budget targets were being met. He also assisted in the development of the department's Gender Equity and Diversity plan.
At SIUE, McIver will oversee the Cougars' marketing, communications, event management, facilities, financial affairs, and most of the department's internal operations. He will have sport supervision for sports to be determined.
"Cougar Athletics has a history of success both in competition and in the classroom, and I am looking forward to helping the program reach new heights," McIver added.
McIver earned his bachelor's degree from Wisconsin-Green Bay and holds a master's from Wisconsin-Oshkosh. He will begin his tenure at SIUE in July.
What they're saying about Dan McIver:
"Congratulations to SIUE and Director of Athletics Andrew Gavin on a great hire. Dan McIver is an experienced, talented, exceptional collegiate administrator. He was instrumental in helping build two very successful Division I programs and will be a great resource to Andrew, all the coaches, staff and student-athletes. His integrity and commitment to the coaches and student-athlete experience will help you do the same at SIUE!"

Former Director of Athletics at Northern Kentucky University and the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay
"As my direct supervisor for several years, Dan fostered an environment of 'TEAM' where I always felt I worked WITH Dan rather than FOR Dan. He would allow me to lead in my own way, but he would also be there to provide advice and support when I needed it. Across the department, he always puts the student-athlete and coach needs at the forefront of decisions and works tirelessly to reach and surpass goals individually and for the department. He leads by example, and he truly cares for the people around him. I not only consider Dan McIver a colleague, but most importantly, a friend. Dan McIver will be a great addition to the SIUE community."

"I have had the chance to work with Dan at Green Bay and then reconnect 11 years later at NKU. SIUE is getting a quality person first and foremost. Dan cares about the student-athletes, coaches, university and its supporters. He will work hard to help the athletic department and university be successful and provide a great experience for everyone associated with SIUE Athletics."
