EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – The 2023-24 SIUE Wrestling schedule, released Thursday, includes five home dates.
"It is going to be a fun season to watch the Cougars," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates, who begins his 11th season at the helm. "We have a number of unique opportunities for our guys to see great competition and wrestle in big time situations."
SIUE opens the season with a potentially loud crowd at Illinois on Nov. 2.
"It is going to be on a school day at noon and they are bussing in a number of IKWF (Illinois Kids Wrestling Federation) programs to watch," said Spates.
The home schedule for the Cougars includes Mid-American Conference rival Rider (Nov. 12), the Cougar Clash tournament (Dec. 2), California Baptist (Dec. 17), Kent State (Dec. 17), Lindenwood (Jan. 14) and Central Michigan (Jan. 28).
"The Cougar Conference Clash will highlight our home schedule with five different conferences represented," said Spates. "We will also see Cal Baptist and CSU Bakersfield which we don't always see the West Coast Teams."
The Cougars face CSU Bakersfield on Feb. 11 as part of a triangular at Little Rock.
SIUE's tournament schedule includes the Kaufman/Brand/Bayly Open (Nov. 4), the Lindenwood Open (Nov. 18), Midlands (Dec. 29-30) and the Indianapolis Open (Feb. 4).
The road schedule for the Cougars includes Edinboro (Jan. 5), Buffalo (Jan. 7), Ohio (Feb. 17) and Northern Illinois (Feb. 23).
The postseason culminates with the MAC Tournament (March 8-9) in Kent, Ohio, followed by the NCAA Championships in Kansas City, Missouri (March 21-23).
