EDINBORO, Pa. - SIUE wrestling won the first five matches Friday and cruised to a 23-9 victory at Edinboro in a matchup of Mid-American Conference rivals.

SIUE improved to 3-2 overall and 2-1 in the MAC. Edinboro dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in the MAC.

"The lightweights did a good job," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates, "We were close to bonus points in the first three matches. Guys did a good job throughout the dual."

Davian Guanajuato started off the Cougars with a 13-6 win over Edinboro's Caleb Edwards. SIUE's Marcel Lopez added a 7-2 win at 133 pounds over Lane Aikey. Eric Almarinez topped Jacob Brenneman at 141 pounds 7-1.

CaineTyus collected his ninth win of the season and first MAC victory, a 3-2 triumph over Colin Roberts at 149 pounds.

"We definitely are getting better," noted Spates. "We were doing a better job of our snaps and keeping guys off balance. That enabled us to get some good shots."

Brock Woodcock earned his fourth technical fall of the season in a 15-0 win over Steffan Lynch at 157 pounds.

SIUE also picked up victories from Deron Pulliam at 184 pounds and Bryson Buhk at 285 pounds.

"A big difference is that we had not been finishing the way we need to, but we did a good job of adpating to that," added Spates.

Next up for the Cougars is a Sunday road contest at Buffalo. Match time is set for noon CT.
