BUFFALO, N.Y. - SIUE wrestling won its fourth straight dual match Sunday, clipping Buffalo 24-9 at Alumni Arena. It is the longest winning streak of the Division I era for the Cougars.

SIUE ran its overall record to 4-2 and 3-1 in the Mid-American Conference. It is the most MAC wins in a season already since SIUE joined the conference during the 2018-19 season.

"This was a big weekend for us," said SIUE Head Coach Jeremy Spates. "I told the guys afterwards. It's really hard to go on the road and beat two teams, especially when you have a team like Buffalo that goes really hard."

The Cougars collected the win in similar fashion than it did Friday at Edinboro. The Cougars won the first five matches and added a key overtime victory by Deron Pulliam at 184 pounds and a decision at 285 pounds by Bryson Buhk.

"The lightweights started it off getting bonus in a couple matches," said Spates. "Even in the upper weights, we were wrestling well, getting to our ties and controlling the pace of the match."

Buffalo was handed its first MAC loss of the season and is now 2-1 with a 7-0 record overall.
 
Davian Guanajuanto picked up the first win of the day for SIUE, dispatching Max Elton 7-2 at 125 pounds. He was followed by victories by Marcel Lopez at 133, Eric Amarinez at 141, Caleb Tyus at 149 and Brock Woodcock with a medical forfeit at 157.

"We've talked about getting better every time we go out there," said Spates.

SIUE returns to action next Sunday at the Vadalabene Center, taking on Lindenwood in a 1 p.m. match.
