EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. – Four players scored in double figures as SIUE downed Missouri Baptist 87-56 Sunday afternoon at First Community Arena.
Ray'Sean Taylor scored 23 points to lead all scorers. He also chipped in a game-high six assists. Brian Taylor II, Eddiean Tirado and Myles Thompson each chipped in 11 points. Ring Malith scored nine points and added a game-high 10 rebounds. Desmond Polk added eight points and seven rebounds.
SIUE connected on 46 percent (30-66) of its shots from the field. The Cougars scored 36 points in the paint and got 25 points off the bench. SIUE finished with 16 assists and 11 turnovers.
The Cougars outrebounded the Spartans 51-42.
SIUE led 42-33 at the break and then limited Missouri Baptist to just 23 second-half points on 25 percent shooting.
Missouri Baptist was led by Thai Elder (11 points) and Evan Palmquist (10).
The Cougars open the regular season Mon., Nov. 4 at home against Westminster.
