EDWARDSVILLE, Ill- SIUE women's basketball team collected its first win of the season in a 77-43 blowout against Roosevelt University Tuesday night at First Community Arena.
SIUE improves to 1-3 on the year. Roosevelt falls to 1-4.
The Cougars never trailed in the game as they started off on an 8-0 run. SIUE held Roosevelt scoreless for over the first 5:00 of the first quarter.
SIUE expanded its lead to ten (16-6) in the opening quarter on a
Macy Silvey three pointer with 1:11 left.
Roosevelt cut the deficit to two in the second quarter on a layup by Kencia Levasseur, but that's as close as the Lakers would be.
The Cougars stretched their first half lead to 14 thanks to an 11-1 run over 4:00 of game time and took a 34-20 lead into halftime.
The second half was controlled by SIUE as they outscored the Lakers 39-24 in the half number two.
SIUE took its largest lead of the game,69-33, on pair of free-throws by
Carmen Martinez Lopez who scored her first collegiate points.
SIUE was led by junior forward
Brianna Wooldridge, who recorded 12 points and 5 rebounds while dishing out 2 assists.
Missouri State transfer,
Jaiden Bryant, recorded her best game as a Cougar scoring 11 points while adding 2 rebounds and an assist. Bryant scored nine of her points in the first half.
SIUE shot 31 of 63 (49 percent) from the field and 6 of 20 (30 percent) from three-point land.
The Cougars grabbed 43 rebounds and recorded 21 assists between nine different players.
Roosevelt was anchored by Kencia Levasseur who scored 9 points while grabbing 6 rebounds and adding 2 assists.
The Lakers shot 15 of 61 (24 percent) from the field and 3 of 15 (20 percent) from behind the arc.
SIUE will play its next four games on the road starting with UCF on Friday. The scheduled tip is 6:00 p.m. CT.
