EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - The first collegiate match for SIUE freshman
Drew Davis will be a memorable one.
Davis, of Chatham, Illinois, was the lone winner for the Cougars in a 41-3 loss to Illinois at First Community Arena. It was the season debut for both programs.
The Cougar 125-pounder defeated No. 17-ranked Ramazan Attasauov 8-5 in the opening match Saturday. His eventual winning move was a takedown with a second left on the clock in the third period.
Illinois came into the match ranked No. 13 in the nation and won the next nine matches.
Next up for the Cougars is the Tiger Style Invite next Saturday in Kansas City, Missouri.
