HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. - Danny Martinez secured SIUE wrestling's top finish Monday at the Ken Kraft Midlands Championships with fifth place at 141 pounds.

Martinez bested Bryce Kresho of Franklin and Marshall 11-4 in the fifth-place match after advancing to the semifinals after day one of the Championships. It was SIUE's best individual finish since 2022 when Caleb Tyus placed fourth at 141 pounds.

The 141-pound weight class also featured another SIUE wrestler among the 2024 medalists. Ben Lunn finished eighth for the Cougars.

In the team standings, SIUE tied for 16th (27.5 points) with George Mason and Ohio State. Stanford was the team champion with 157 points.

Next up for the Cougars is the NWCA Multi-Division National Dual Meet Championships at the UNI-Dome in Cedar Falls, Iowa, on Jan. 10-11.
