COMMERCE, Texas - SIUE softball collected double-digit hits for the third straight game and won its third straight contest Sunday, defeating host Texas A&M Commerce 8-4.
The Cougars, now 4-4, next head to the Blues City Tournament in Memphis, Tennessee. SIUE faces two games against DePaul, two against Indiana State and one against host Memphis beginning Friday.
"It was a total team effort," said SIUE Head Coach
Ben Sorden. "It was a solid weekend at the plate. We're still figuring some things out, but we're headed in the right direction."
Eight different positions in the lineup record hits, including two each from
Paige Rocha and Lauren Yslava.
Jenna Little and
Grace Lueke each had two RBIs.
Jenna Herron and
Madison Kearns both scored two runs.
Harley Limberger came off the bench for an RBI single in the seventh, adding a key insurance run.
"We were seeing the ball well and were hitting with batter's counts," added Sorden. "We had a number of people step up in the lineup.
Kelsey Ray earned the victory while
Rylie Pindel added her second save in as many days.
"Rylie shut then down today like she did yesterday," added Sorden.
