SIUE Women's Tennis Downs St. Thomas

JACKSON, Wis. - SIUE women's tennis improved to 5-0 Sunday with a 5-2 neutral-site triumph over St. Thomas at the Pleasant Valley Tennis and Fitness Club.

"I'm extremely proud of how our entire team responded after picking up a hard fought win yesterday," SIUE Head Coach Adam Albertsen said. "Leaving with two wins was a great test that will prepare us for later in the season."

The Cougars completed the weekend sweep and now head home with its next three matches at the Edwardsville Y Meyer Center. SIUE welcomes Illinois State and Northern Iowa this Friday and Saturday.

Amelia Gorman clinched the winning point for the second consecutive match, She defeated Olivia Paradise at No. 4 singles 6-4, 6-3.

SIUE's Jill Lambrechts finished the weekend with straight sets victories in both matches. On Sunday, she downed Marthe Degeorges 6-0, 6-4.

Singles winners included Margaux Guibal Britt at No. 2 singles and Cydney Rogers at No. 6 singles.

The Cougars grabbed the momentum early in the match with the doubles point. Guibal Britt and Rogers clinched the doubles point for the Cougars with a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles over Degeorges and Caroline Lindahl.

"Earning the doubles point was great to see," said Albertsen. "All three courts played well and grabbed the momentum. Seeing different players step up each match is a great sign of our depth. Jill and Margaux kept the match rolling with straight set wins. Mia clinched the team win with a really nice match, and it was great to see Cydney play at a very high level with a tiebreak win and a clean second set."
