Box Score ST. CHARLES, Mo. - SIUE softball dropped the rubber game of the series at Lindenwood Sunday, falling 4-3 at Lou Brock Complex.
Grace Lueke provided a two-out RBI double in the seventh inning to pull SIUE within one, but Lindenwood held on.
Amanda Weyh earned the win in relief for Lindenwood.
Kelsey Ray, who went 2 1/3 innings, took the loss for the Cougars. SIUE is now 9-12 overall and 1-2 in the Ohio Valley Conference.
Lindenwood, 12-11 overall and 2-1 in the OVC, scored all four of its runs in the third inning.
"Other than the one inning, I thought we played well," said SIUE Head Coach
Ben Sorden.
SIUE scored its first two runs in the fourth inning.
Harley Limberger provided a clutch two-RBI pinch hit that brought home
Madison Kearns and Kaylynn Salyers.
Eight different players recorded a hit as SIUE tied Lindenwood in hits 8-8.
Paige Rocha extended her hitting streak to a team-leading 14 games.
Sorden also noted the outstanding defense in left field by
Jenna Herron as well as the relief pitching of
Sydney Baalman, who tossed the final 3 2/3 innings.
SIUE now returns home for a midweek nonconference matchup against Kansas City. Game time Wednesday for a doubleheader is 2 p.m.
