EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - SIUE softball dropped a pair of games under the lights at Cougar Field Saturday, falling 11-3 to St. Thomas and 9-4 to Illinois State.
The tournament concludes Sunday with two more games scheduled for the Cougars. SIUE, 7-9, faces Creighton at 2:30 p.m. and Loyola at 5 p.m.
"I would like to see us rebound and finish off our home tournament on a positive note," said SIUE Head Coach
Ben Sorden.
In Saturday's game one, the Cougars collected six hits and first scored in the fourth inning. Lauren Yslava doubled home Jenn Herron to put the Cougars on scoreboard.
SIUE tallied two more in the fifth on an exciting play as
Paige Rocha throttled the ball to right center and kept going all the way home, aiding only by an errant throw from the outfield. Pinch runner
Maleah Blomenkamp scored on the play.
Sydney Baalman took the loss for the Cougars as St. Thomas put together a 12-hit effort.
In game two, SIUE's offense tallied its four runs in the first two innings.
Anna Henderson and
Grace Lueke provided RBI hits in the first inning. Rocha and Yslava turned in RBIs in the second inning.
Illinois State, 4-15, rallied for six runs in the top of the seventh and finished with 12 hits for the game.
Rocha and
Jenna Herron were the top hitters on the day for the Cougars, collected three hits each.Â
