KANSAS CITY, Mo. - SIUE's
Caleb Tyus completed his 2023-24 season Friday at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships
Stanford's Jaden Abas defeated Tyus 4-1 in the second consolation round. Tyus ended the season with a 21-9 record following his second NCAA Division I Championships appearance.
"I told him we are proud of him as well as the alumni base and fans," said SIUE Head Coach
Jeremy Spates. "He battled all year through some big tournaments and has done a great job for us the last three years."
Asked what makes Tyus special, Spates said there wasn't anything in particular but rather his all-around qualities.
"What makes him special is his ability to wrestle in all positions and wrestling all seven minutes of a match," he added.
Six SIUE wrestlers placed at the Mid-American Conference Championships heading into the NCAAs.
"We are definitely excited," said Spates. "With those six guys back and we have some incoming guys, we're excited about the future."
