EDWARDSVILLE, Ill. - SIUE women's tennis finished the 2024 regular season on a high note with a 7-0 victory Saturday at the SIUE Tennis Courts.
SIUE Head Coach
Adam Albertsen and his team celebrated Senior Day, honoring
Fabiola Perez,
Jordan Schifano and
Jill Lambrechts previous to the match.
"They're a special group," said Albertsen. "Over the past three years they have won about 80 percent of their matches as a team. They raised the bar. I can't tell you how many 4.0 semesters they have had. IT's helped get this program back to where it should be."
SIUE, 15-3 overall and 5-1 in the Ohio Valley Conference, earned the No. 2 seed for next week's OVC Championships. The Cougars will face Western Illinois, the No. 7 seed, in the opening match at the Dwight Davis Tennis Center in St. Louis. Match time 12 noon on Friday.
The three-day OVC runs April 19th through April 21st.
"We look at the OVC Tournament as a brand new season," said Albertsen. "We've been working on a few things gearing up for this event."
On Saturday, SIUE swept all of the matches in straight sets against the Leathernecks, which dropped to 2-15 overall and 0-6 in the OVC.
After winning the doubles point, the Cougars reeled off singles wins from Perez (No. 4),
Cydney Rogers (No. 5),
Paula Guillen Cerver (No. 6).
Amelia Gorman (No. 3), Schifano (No. 2) and
Margaux Guibal Britt (No. 1).
